Helping Communities in the Philippines

We Support Cashew Tree School, Manila

At Philippine Trails we wanted to play a part in helping the less fortunate in the Philippines.

We wanted to support a small charity, run by locals in Manila, where small donations can have an immediate impact.

We also wanted to make sure that anything put into the charity was wisely spent.

The Cashew Tree School

The Cashew Tree School in Manila focuses upon transforming the lives of children who have grown up in poverty around the stinking city rubbish dumps on the edge of Manila.

Here, families survive by scavenging on the dumps for things to recycle. Money is tight and the young children often help out sorting through rubbish to sell. Typically whole families might earn the equivalent of just £2 per day, barely enough for regular food, certainly not for education in this city.

Supporting Children

At Cashew Tree School underprivileged children aged 4 to 6 years old receive up to 2 years of free education and a daily nutritious meal. Without this early education it is unlikely that these children will have built the confidence to go on and succeed in public elementary school.

Watch the video, above, to see more about life at Cashew Tree School.

Cashew Tree School has been improving lives since 1998 so there is experience about what works and it is run to the highest professional standards by fully qualified Filipino staff.

Sponsor a Child

An amazing thing to do would be to become a sponsor for a specific child, like Fara, left.

Meet Fara...

Fara is 4 years old. She lives with her young Mum and her twin sister Elvira. Her favourite colour is violet and she loves to eat fried chicken and spaghetti.

Fara enjoys her daily lessons at Cashew Tree Early Years School which have already inspired her so that she wants to be a teacher when she grows up!

What a great way to create a lasting link and maybe remember a fabulous holiday in the Philippines.

A child like Fara would need just £16 per month to start and stay at Cashew Tree School for up to 2 years.

You may choose to write to her and you will get a reply and an annual progress report in return!

If you would like to sponsor a specific child or have any questions, please phone the charity manager, John, on +44 (0) 1276 942030. (UK Number.)

Thank you in advance from Philippine Trails and the children at Cashew Tree School.
