This mountain-bike tour of Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte takes us to numerous heritage sites and historic landmarks. The towns of Vigan, Laoag, Paoay, Burgos, are rich with culture, and Pagudpud has wonderfully sandy beaches.
Day 1 - Arrive in Manila. Evening flight to Laoag, the capital of Ilocos Norte. Your tour leader will meet you at the airport and transfer you to Spanish-style town of Vigan, the capital of Ilocos Sur, and a World Heritage Site.
Enjoy a walk around Vigan at night before sitting down to a welcome dinner. We stay overnight at Grandpa’s Inn.
Day 2 - Today we explore Vigan by bike, visiting the cathedral & Burgos Museum. We visit the pottery where they make the famous Ilocano jars used for storing contents such as vinegar, wine, and fish sauce. Be sure to try Vigan’s delicacy - tasty Vigan Empanada - a snack that contains grated unripe papaya.
Day 3 - After breakfast we drive by car to the town of Curimao - famous for the rock formations along its coast. We next head to Paoay, with its century-old Baroque church and inland lake. We also visit the Marcos Museum and Mausoleum - resting place of former Philippines President, Ferdinand Marcos. We end the day in Laoag.
Day 4 - The adventures continue as today we try sand boarding in a special desert environment that the local populace call Bantay Bimmaboy - believing that the sand dunes are in the shape of pigs! We then continue our bike ride along the coast, discovering the Kapurpurawan Rock Formation. We explore more of these unusual rock formations by riding horseback to the Palpalokada, which is a mountain affording fantastic views.
Day 5: Today we ride our bikes, climbing Cape Bojeador - which was a welcome beacon to the galleons of the past, as well as the international ships of today. In Burgos we will experience the waterfalls, locally known as Avis Waterfalls. Leaving the falls, we will cycle on to the giant Windmills of Bangui.
Day 6 - Today we start early, cycling and trekking to Kabigan Falls, a distance of around 15km. We then make our way to Patapat viaduct, passing the Blue Lagoon, detouring only for a side-trip to Bantay Abot Cave.
Day 7 - This morning we explore the tracks and trails of Kapuluan.
In the afternoon we try Paddle boarding or Surfing, or simply relaxing by the sandy beach until dinner is served to us. We relax and recharge our batteries knowing there's a challenging cycle to Adams the next day.
Day 8 - We drive you to the start of the 15 km trail going to Adams. It's a challenging climb to get to a viewpoint overlooking the rice fields and distant mountains.
We try locally made wine, appreciate the organic farming, and enjoy delectable food. A trek to the waterfalls will complete our activities for the day.
Day 9 - After breakfast we enjoy free time at leisure to surf, paddle or simply enjoy the Blue Lagoon's sandy beaches.
We then drive to Burgos’ dragon fruit farm for snacks, and also call by at the Fish Sanctuary. Then it's off to Laoag International Airport for our flight back to Manila.
Overnight in a Manila hotel.
Day 10 - Free time at leisure in Manila until your international flight home.
