This map and short guide to the Philippines most popular tourist areas will help you create an itinerary suitable to you.

It is important to know that most regions connect with each other via Manila. In other words, you can pretty well make a combination of any of the recommended tourist areas. We will tie them together for you. Islands within each region generally link up via boat or fast ferry.

The map shows the main connections, and the notes alongside give a little more basic information. Check the regions you want to include in your tour of the Philippines. If we don't think it's practical, we'll let you know and advise.

Manila - The Philippines capital. You're likely to start and finish here.

Ilocos - The north west of Luzon. Here you'll find the Spanish style town of Vigan, as well as numerous historical sites to visit at Laoag and Paoay particularly.

Puerto Galera - Easily reached by road and ferry, Puerto Galera offers diving, watersports, sailing, and lots of bars and nightlife!

Calamian Islands (Coron) - Great diving, stunning scenery, and a game reserve!

El Nido - Towering limestone cliffs, and deserted island beaches. El Nido town itself is charming.

Puerto Princesa - Honda Bay and the Underground River.
Dumaguete - Easily reached from Cebu and Bohol.. This area of Negros has sand bars, waterfalls, lakes, caves, and great diving.

Batanes Islands - As far north as you can get, a unique collection of islands with flights from Manila.

Cagayan Valley - The most north-easterly tip of the Philippines, with unspoilt beaches, caves, and water sports

The Rice Terraces - A 10 hour trip overnight by AirCon Bus, or daytime private transfers. Also connects with Ilocos by road.

Bicol - Legaspi & Mayon Volcano, Donsol whale sharks, Ticao Island diving, and Masbate is cowboy country!

Boracay - The jewel in the crown. White sand beaches, the best resorts, watersports, golf, and numerous bars and restaurants.

Iloilo & Bacolod - Sugar plantations, old colonial houses, historic churches, and Guimaras Island beaches. A fast ferry connects the 2 cities.

The Visayas - Cebu and Bohol are both reached by air, and are themselves connected by a fast ferry service.
Mindanao - Davao has Nature Parks, and the Philippine Eagle. Samal Island has a number of great beach resorts.
